Common Gas Plumbing Issues

Gas issues can be subtle, but they’re serious. These are the most common red flags:

Nose icon

You smell gas near an
appliance or fitting

Gas cooker icon

The cooktop won’t ignite
or flames look wrong

Temp control icon

Pressure is low
or fluctuating

Gas leak icon

You’ve had renovation work or digging near gas lines

Microwave icon

A new gas appliance needs safe connection

Leaking tap icon

You’ve noticed unusual sounds, dead plants, or leaks

Behind these symptoms? It’s usually ageing pipework, worn seals, incorrect installs, or external damage. Left unchecked, small issues can become dangerous, fast. All our gas work meets Australian standards. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, call us immediately.

When to DIY and When to Call a Licensed Gasfitter

There are some plumbing jobs you can attempt a DIY solution for. Replacing a tap washer, cleaning a showerhead, or plunging a blocked drain are all fine to tackle yourself at home.

Gas work is the exception.

No matter how small the job, NSW law requires all gas plumbing to be done by a licensed gasfitter. This is set out in the Home Building Act 1989 and covers everything from connecting a new appliance to fixing a gas line. The rules exist because the risks are real: gas leaks can build up silently and ignite from a single spark, and faulty appliances can produce carbon monoxide, which has no smell and no colour.

How We Handle Gas Plumbing

Gas work is something we deal with all the time, so whatever you need, we can help sort it out.

If you’ve got a gas leak, we’ll find it and fix it properly. Need a new stove, oven, heater or hot water system connected? No worries, we’ll get it hooked up safely. We also service existing gas systems if something doesn’t seem right or you just want peace of mind before winter.

If it’s urgent, give us a call. We’re available after hours for gas emergencies across the Sapphire Coast.

Every job comes with a compliance certificate, so you’re properly covered.
