Gas Cooktop Replacement on the Sapphire Coast

Anthony had a new gas cooktop sitting in the kitchen, still boxed and ready to go in. The old one had done its time. What he needed was a licensed gas fitter to disconnect the old unit, connect the new one to the home’s bottled LPG supply, and certify the work. That’s the kind of job our gas plumbers handle every week across the Sapphire Coast.

The problem

The home runs on bottled LPG rather than mains natural gas, fed from a dual-bottle setup outside. Anthony’s existing cooktop had reached the end of its life, and he’d bought a like-for-like replacement to drop straight into the same spot.

Swapping a gas appliance over sounds simple, but it isn’t a job to tackle yourself. The old cooktop has to be safely disconnected, the gas line isolated and purged, then the new unit connected, tested and commissioned before anyone cooks on it. Under NSW law, every step has to be carried out by a licensed gas fitter.

The Keogh Plumbing solution

Our licensed gas fitters took care of the full changeover in a single visit. We located and isolated the existing gas service, purged the line, then ran the connection across to the new cooktop. A new gas ball valve and flexible connection went in between the supply and the stove, giving Anthony a clean shut-off point for any servicing down the track. Once the cooktop was fitted, we commissioned it and ran a gas test across the property to confirm there were no leaks on the line.

Because the LPG comes off a twin-bottle setup, we also supplied and fitted a new LPG regulator while we were on site. The regulator keeps gas pressure steady across both bottles and the changeover between them, so the new cooktop runs the way it should. Every gas job we complete comes with a compliance certificate, so Anthony’s work is signed off and properly documented.

The result

Anthony’s new cooktop was connected, tested and ready to use the same day, with the paperwork to match. A like-for-like swap like this is quick when the right team handles it, and it keeps a home running on the gas setup it already has.

Thinking about a new cooktop or oven? Our team handles gas appliance installs and repairs, plus gas hot water connections if you’re moving off electric. We recently sorted a leaking gas regulator for another local home, and you can see more of our recent plumbing projects too.
